About Me

12 Sep 2008

I work in the Southern Sector of the park and am currently based at the Kibati Patrol Post, about 25km north of Goma. I have worked for many years with gorillas.

Tracking gorillas in the Mikeno Sector of Virunga

My father was also a ranger, back when they didn’t have guns and were armed only with a spear. One day he was at the river at Lulimbi when he saw a woman with a baby crossing the river. He was horrified when he noticed that a leopard was waiting to pounce on the other bank. He quickly crossed the river and intercepted the leopard before it could attack. He battled it with his spear and finally killed it, but he was seriously injured in the process and had to spend 6 months in the hospital.
